200 Squats Challenge Update

3 Mar

I haven’t done an update on the 200 squats challenge since I posted the first time. I’ve got a few more days under my belt and lots more squats :-) I’m up to 120 now! Unfortunately I think I’m going to have to throw in the towel and give up on this challenge. I don’t want to but I’m having some serious knee issues. Today I can hardly walk because my knees are bothering me so bad. Every time I do a squat my knee’s crack and pop…I’m sure that’s probably not a good sign.

For some reason my knees didn’t bother me back in the beginning when I was only do a few squats. It’s just started since I’ve worked my weigh up into the 80′s, 90′s and 100′s. I’ve had issues with my right knee in the past – it acts up once in awhile due to a skiing accident I had a million years ago – during my Senior year in high school.

So I think I’m going to have to go back to just doing my Wii Fit Plus exercising again for right now. Actually until my knees stop hurting I won’t be doing anything. I think once my knees stop hurting I’m going to start using my rebounder again. Only thing with that is I get so bored just standing there bouncing.

I’m sorry you have to give up on the challenge. I have serious knee issues and can never do squats and can’t find a modified version to do the same thing. Someone recommended I try IFlex supplements but I can never remember to pick them up while I’m out!

    Hope your knee gets better!

Lisa – Squats are so not ‘user’ friendly if you have knee problems. Kind of a bummer because they are such a great thigh workout!

Thankfully my knees are feeling a little bit better today but they are still super sore :-(

Don’t stop exercising completely! You can do some upper body work and ab work while your knees heal! You might even be able to do some leg lifts or other things that don’t put pressure on your knee! But listening to your body is an excellent thing and one that I still struggle with. I just push push push until I pinch a nerve in my back. Or put a stress fracture in my foot. Or whatever. You are rockin’ this weight loss and you can do it!

Thank you for your comment Erin :-) It’s been so easy the last several days to NOT exercise and use my knees as the EXCUSE! But honestly it’s not just because of my knees I haven’t exercised the last several days…I’ve just been pure lazy which isn’t a good spot to be in and I know that.

You just gave me the butt kicking I needed to start exercising again!

I’m just like you too – I push and push until I eventually do some major damage which is not a good thing either. lol

Sorry you can’t continue the challenge, that’s a bummer. I totally get what you mean about the boring work outs. I almost can’t stand to step on the elliptical anymore, it’s so boring, so I have been doing different videos and walking.

I thought I’d be relieved that I couldn’t continue on with the challenge because of my knees but I’m actually irritated that I had to quit! I HATE quiting! I tried doing a couple squats last night but there’s just no way I’m going to be able to do them. It was too painful & now I’m in misery once again today from just those few I did :-(

The elliptical is very boring! Of course when I used to use my best friend’s I could NEVER make it more than 10 minutes so I guess you can’t really get bored in 10 minutes. lol

Never willing to pass up a challenge, I wandered over to the 200 squats site to check it out. Tried the test squats to see where I ranked. Failed miserably. You’ll find me in the first column, when I get the feeling back in my thighs. :)

LOL Cindy that’s exactly how I am too – can’t ever pass up a good challenge! I failed miserably too when I did my initial test and oh how I remember the pain!!!! You’ll have to post about it on your blog so I can follow along on how the challenge goes for you :-) I just subscribed to your RSS feed so I could follow you on your weight loss journey.

Squats, goodness, I don’t think I can even do those. Very hard on the knees!

Nell I can’t imagine that they are even that good for anyone considering how hard on the knees they are. Of course I keep trying but I just can’t do them. I hate that feeling of ‘giving up’ that I keep getting though because I can’t do them! lol

Very important that you do squats correctly. Haven’t had the chance to really check out the site but hopefully they show you exactly how to do it. One time I did squats while holding a medicine ball and pulled a muscle in my back. You have to be sooo careful with squats.

I would like to try the challenge at some point but tomorrow we go back to the gym after 3 weeks of nothing..had pneumonia. Can’t wait to get back to spin class and running so the squat challenge will have to wait. Cannot afford to mess this running up as I MUST train for the 1/2 marathon in Dec.

Keep going Tishia, it’s easy to just stop altogether but you can do this. Take it easy on the knees but keep moving!

Angie I don’t even remember if the site shows you how to do squats or not. Evidently I don’t know how to do them correctly because if I did I don’t think I’d have been in so much pain doing them.

Pneumonia? Wowsers girly! Hope you’re feeling better!
