How Do You Eat Out Every Day For A Week And Keep It Healthy?
22 Jan
I will be leaving next Tuesday to go out of town for a week.
I’m heading to Atlanta, Georgia with some fellow Michiganders who also happen to be work at home moms.
We are going to a conference called Niche Affiliate Marketing Systems.
So my dilemma? I always seem to have a harder time sticking to a healthy eating and exercise regimen when I’m out of town. I’m especially ‘freaking’ out because it’s for a week!
Breakfast:
We get a continental breakfast at the hotel so I plan on sticking to fruits and probably those little boxes of cereals.
That I can handle.
Lunch & Dinner:
We’ll be eating out! Eating out is totally my downfall! I’ve already got it planned in my head that I will look for salads. But once I get there and start looking at the menu I have a feeling it’s going to be a little more challenging to order some sort of salad.
That I’m not so sure I can handle!
Snacks:
I am taking a snack bag with me. I’ve got it loaded up already with…granola bars. I don’t know what else to take that will travel well.
That I can handle if I knew some other things to pack!
This is where I’m running into problems and could use your help with suggestions on two things.
- Snack foods (we can take snacks into the conference rooms with us)
- Healthy eating while dining out for an entire week!
My hope is that if I focus on making sure that I get a couple decent snacks in (one before lunch and one before dinner) that it will be easier to eat light and not deviate away from healthy eating while I’m gone.
Exercise:
I’ve already made plans to work out in the mornings with one of the girls that I’ve known online for awhile (and you really should check out her blog – Losing It And Loving It – because she’s so inspirational, loving, encouraging and just plain AWESOME!).
I told her that if the sessions started early in the morning that I didn’t want to be getting up at 4:30am to go workout but you know what? If that’s what it takes to keep my momentum going then so be it! I won’t be a happy camper to roll out of bed that early but I’m willing to do what needs to be done!
So I really need your suggestions!

I have been thinking about this myself lately. I’ll be picking up some snack bars although I try not to eat them too frequently but that will help keep the cravings for more food down. Some fruit would be good too, bananas, apples, etc. I can’t bring all that stuff with me since I’m flying so hopefully it will be easy to come by at the hotel.
As for lunch and dinner, I was thinking of sharing/splitting a meal with someone. Remember salads can actually be one of the worst things on the menu and you definitely need to get in your proteins and whole grains. Eating out is a challenge for me but I try to choose wisely and ask for no butter or dressing on the side, things like that. I’m crazy for dessert so I will have to split it with someone or not get it at all LOL
Keeping up with exercising will be great! I just realized that Thurs. and Friday I normally take off from working out now that I have started running and for the first few weeks, I have to take it easy BUT I’m going to workout with you at NAMS anyway. It might not be as much as I’m used to doing but I will get something in while there.
Thanks for the kind words, I really appreciate them! See you in less than a week. YEA

If you are eating out and end up NOT splitting with another person, make sure to ask for a take out box when your order comes. Then, split your meal in two and put one half right away in the take out box. That way you are not tempted to eat it all. Good luck! Let us know how your trip goes and make sure to have fun!

Snacks: Pack a variety of nuts. Those are always good. You might be able to find a store near by and pick up some fresh fruits/veggies too that you can cut up and take in the conference room with you too.

Oh you get to hang out and work out with Angie, wow! I’m still pouting over missing NAMS, if for no other reason to meet you all in person. I know you’ll have a fabulous time.
I’ve been thinking a lot about this topic too, because eating out has been a big problem for me. But also, because I have a conference coming up in April that I always bring 1/2 a suitcase of food to and then pick up water bottles and fruit at a grocery store near by (one option if you can borrow a car or get a ride from someone). But I usually my hotel room doesn’t have a microwave so, I always try to get foods that I can make with just hot water (from the room coffee pot) – like refried beans, mashed potatoes, cup of soups, etc… some of which I can’t eat under my new meal plan. Anyway, looking for good solutions to this as well.
