I Have a Dilemma
11 May
So I have a dilemma on my hands and I don’t know what to do!
My son handed me a permission slip for his end of the year field trip. They are going rafting down a river which is something I just did for the very first time last summer and absolutely LOVED it.
On the permission slip there is a spot that you can volunteer to help chaperon the rafting trip if you would like. The rafts are 5 person rafts and there has to be 1 adult for every raft.
I want to volunteer so bad! It would be so much fun to not only do this with my son but his entire class. What a perfect way to end the school year out!
So here’s where the dilemma comes in…
“Everyone wears life jackets which are provided by Big Bear Adventures“
Obviously life jackets are a good thing especially for the kids. But life jackets for big people just don’t work out well. Last summer on a camping trip I couldn’t take my son and my best friend’s daughter in a paddle boat at the place we stayed because I could NOT fit into a life jacket!
Ok well I’m 50 pounds (ok 49.8 lbs) lighter than last summer but let’s face it I have some pretty big ‘girls’ so the dilemma is I don’t know if even now I can fit into a life jacket! I would be totally mortified if we got all the way up there only to find out I couldn’t go because a life jacket wouldn’t fit.
So I didn’t sign my name and my son is really upset and so am I. But that’s really the only option because I just can’t chance the fact that a life jacket still might not fit me
But the permission slip is still sitting on my desk – it doesn’t have to be back to school until tomorrow so there’s still time to change my mind and just take a leap of faith that the ‘girls’ will fit!

Girl go to a sporting goods store and try on some life jackets.

LOL well I would have had I actually had some time to go to one before the permission slip is due back but I don’t have any time. He has to turn the slip in tomorrow.
But….I could buy my own life jacket…they have to make ones for bigger people!
((Hugs)) Can you call to get the measurements? 50lbs is a lot. You may be able to fit them now.

I probably could do that but I think I might just go buy my own life jacket.
Go for it girl!!! Sign that permission slip and go on that trip!!

Thanks Sunnie

Yep that’s what I’m gonna do Mac
I am glad that you will go to buy your own life jacket and will attend the field trip. I love happy endings.
Thanks for commenting Athelete Comes Back
I’m hoping that I’ll be able to go now that I signed up…my son’s teacher only needs a couple chaperones.
Well, I’m probably too late but did you call the rafting place to see what size they have. I’m sure they have dealt with this before and they have to accommodate.

I didn’t call the rafting place. If I get picked to be a chaperon I’ll probably just end up getting my own life jacket…although that might be kind of silly considering that’s the only time I’d ever use it! lol
