Zumba Class Take Two

I took my very first Zumba class on June 8th (2011) and I was up in the air about whether I liked it or not. There were some things I liked but the biggest part of the class – the teacher – I didn’t care for. She didn’t act like she was all that into it. Maybe she was just having an ‘off’ day and if that was the case it really stunk for me as a ‘virgin’ Zumba class attendee.

After that class, one of the things I wrote in my blog post about it was:

I guess I was just expecting to walk away with a grin on my face and feel like โ€˜oh my gosh that was the funnest thing ever, I canโ€™t wait to go back againโ€™

And I’m happy to say that that’s exactly how I felt today! It was a little ‘uncomfortable’ taking the class at the gym down here in Lansing compared to taking it back up North.ย  Up North when I took it there were 6 of us in the class so we had lots of room to move. Down here, there were about 20 (maybe 25-30 even!) of us and we were pretty cramped. But we made it work. And honestly everyone was having so much fun I don’t think we cared it was so cramped!

I can’t believe how much of a difference an instructor makes! This Zumba class teacher was so full of energy and so fun! She played totally different music than the ‘bad’ instructor, had totally different moves (which from what I gather all the instructors do different things), was making us hoot and holler with her, danced her way out into us and just interacted so much with us!

I am still grinning thinking about it! Now I know what everyone says when they talk about how they love Zumba because I do too. I was ecstatic to find out that she was filling in for the instructor at Friday’s 10:30am slot – you bet I’ll be there!

So, my advice for the week?

If you’ve taken a Zumba class (or any aerobics class) and didn’t really enjoy it, check out another class with a different instructor!ย  ๐Ÿ™‚

I’m lucky that I enjoyed my class, and my instructor, the first time around, and I think you’ve hit the nail on the head – the instructor for a class can make all the difference.

So I’m glad you found a class with an instructor that you enjoyed! Keep it up! ๐Ÿ™‚

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE ZUMBA. The music is addictive and it makes you want to move. I have been doing it for about 3 weeks so far. This past Labor Day has me thrown off a bit but I am going to do 4 times a week (fingers crossed)! I love my instructor and she will work all of the sweat out of you. My recommendation is find an instructor who you can feel good with and stick with that one. To me if you go to several instuctors, with the different routines to the same song may throw you off. I am going to get some vids off youtube and put them together to make my own 1 hour workout just in case I dont make it to a class. I have other tips regarding zumba also. Feel free to email me.
